Paris 1826

Hipolyte Bayard

Many of the most influential photographs in history were created in Paris, dating back to as early as 1826. Paris was the heart of early photography, as many photographic processes were researched, created, and patented here. In this project, I have recreated some of these historic photographs. The goal is to study the juxtaposition between the original photographs and the new photographs I have recreated. This project will invite viewers to create social, historical, and scientific comparisons between early 19th-century male photographers to a 21st-century female photographer. All while celebrating the historic photographic breakthroughs that have led us to modern-day photography, and the role Paris has played throughout photographic history.
