The misappropriation of cultures creates a society where minorities face homesickness. displacement, loss, and constantly struggle to find authentic representation of their culture.​  The stereotypes that result from the food industry’s misappropriation of culture creates an extremely limited and skewed view on cultures and supports an unbalanced cultural structure within society. Finding imagery of familiar foods functions as a coping mechanism for homesickness for people who have immigrated away from their home in times of crisis, sickness, stress or anxiety. ​
