Sofía Fernández-García is an artist, educator, and researcher whose practice centers on analog photography and alternative image-making processes. 

Drawing from her experience growing up in a bicultural home in the United States, her earlier work explored the relationships between food, authenticity, cultural identity, stereotypes, and belonging. 

Recent projects address femicide in Mexico City and mass shootings in Colorado, exploring the aftermath of violence and the ways communities carry loss. Through photographic experimentation and archival research, Fernández-García creates images and installations that connect private mourning with broader social realities, using photography as a space for reflection, dialogue, and remembrance.

She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the University of Colorado Denver in 2021 and an MFA in Photography and Image-Making from the Paris College of Art in France in 2024, where she later joined the faculty, teaching History of Photography and Alternative Image-Making. She has also led workshops in alternative photographic processes for the Paris College of Art and Istituto Italiano di Fotografia.

In 2024, Sofia was selected to represent the Paris College of Art through the Terra Foundation of American Art Research Program. Under the supervision of Barbara Montefalcone, Chair of the Liberal Studies Department, she conducted research that she presented to art history students from Université Paris Nanterre at the Terra Foundation Center in Paris.
